Part 10

Use Tracelight from Other AI Tools

A. The Tracelight MCP Server

  • Tracelight runs an MCP server, open on every plan, so you can use it from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any other MCP client.
  • From your AI tool, you can hand tasks to the Tracelight agent, browse and upload project files, and collect what the agent produced.
  • Every client connects to the same address over streamable HTTP. The first time you connect, a browser window opens for you to sign in with your Tracelight account; there is no API key to copy.

B. Claude (Web and Desktop)

  • In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click “Add custom connector”.
  • Name it Tracelight, paste the server address above, and click “Add”. Then click “Connect” and sign in to Tracelight.
  • On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector for the organisation first; each member then connects with their own Tracelight account.
  • Connectors added on claude.ai are also available in Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps.

C. Claude Code

  • Run the command below in your terminal.
  • Start Claude Code, type /mcp, choose tracelight, and select “Authenticate” to sign in.
claude mcp add --transport http tracelight https://app.tracelight.ai/api/mcp

D. ChatGPT

  • In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. Custom connectors need a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan, and on Business and Enterprise plans a workspace admin may need to allow them.
  • Back in Apps & Connectors, click “Create”, name it Tracelight, paste the server address above, choose OAuth authentication, and create it. ChatGPT then asks you to sign in to Tracelight.
  • In a new chat, pick Tracelight from the tools menu under the composer.

E. Codex

  • Run the commands below. The second opens a browser window to sign in to Tracelight.
codex mcp add tracelight --url https://app.tracelight.ai/api/mcp
codex mcp login tracelight

F. Cursor

  • Open Cursor Settings → Tools & MCP and click “New MCP Server”. This opens ~/.cursor/mcp.json; add the entry below and save.
  • Back in Tools & MCP, click “Connect” next to tracelight and sign in.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tracelight": {
      "url": "https://app.tracelight.ai/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

G. VS Code (GitHub Copilot)

  • Open the Command Palette, run “MCP: Add Server”, choose HTTP, paste the server address above, and name it tracelight.
  • Alternatively, add the entry below to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace, or to your user mcp.json via “MCP: Open User Configuration”.
  • VS Code asks you to sign in to Tracelight when the server first starts. Use Copilot Chat in Agent mode to call its tools.
{
  "servers": {
    "tracelight": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://app.tracelight.ai/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}

H. Other MCP Clients

  • Any client that supports remote MCP servers over streamable HTTP with OAuth can connect: give it the server address above and sign in when prompted.
  • If a client only supports local servers, bridge it with mcp-remote by running the server as: npx -y mcp-remote https://app.tracelight.ai/api/mcp
